Historic Timberline Lodge Suffers Late-Night Attic Fire

Firefighters Extinguish Blaze, No Injuries Reported

April 19, 2024

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — Firefighters worked swiftly to extinguish a late-night fire at Oregon's iconic Timberline Lodge on Thursday. The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. in the attic on the north side of the historic lodge.

Firefighters arrived within 20 minutes and were able to contain the fire to the attic. No injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished by 11:10 p.m.

"We were very fortunate to have had such a quick response from the firefighters," said John Burton, marketing director at Timberline Lodge. "They did an amazing job in putting out the fire and preventing it from spreading."

Burton said he believes embers from a fireplace may have caused the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Despite the fire, Timberline Lodge remains open for business. Guests can still enjoy the lodge's many amenities, including its restaurant, bar, and ski area.
