County holds public hearing for solar farm ban, ISU Extension plans community solar meeting
Lee County, Iowa, considers banning solar farms in unincorporated areas
A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Lee County Courthouse, 401 Main Street, Keokuk, Iowa, to consider a proposed ordinance that would ban solar farms in unincorporated areas of the county.
The proposed ordinance defines a solar farm as a commercial solar energy generation facility that generates electricity for sale to a utility or other entity.
The ordinance would prohibit the construction of new solar farms in unincorporated areas of the county and would require the removal of any existing solar farms within five years of the ordinance's adoption.
